James Graham Brown Cancer Center surgical oncologists are comprised of the faculty of the University of Louisville Surgical Oncology Program — one of the largest and most respected surgical oncology programs in the country.
In order to provide the best possible patient care, the Brown Cancer Center has recruited nationally prominent surgical oncologists in the specialties of:
- breast cancer
- melanoma
- liver cancer
- gastrointestinal cancer
- sarcoma
- peritoneal malignancies
- esophageal cancer
- endocrine tumors
The surgical oncologists are part of multidisciplinary teams and meet regularly with the rest of the patient's oncology team to discuss that patient's individualized treatment plan. These multidisciplinary teams also include some of the country’s leading radiation oncologists, who serve their patients with the assistance of the most advanced equipment and techniques available.
The very broad clinical and research interests of Brown Cancer Center surgical oncologists, combined with strong working relationships with physicians in the other treatment modalities and research scientists at the Brown Cancer Center, have provided the optimal environment for the development and evaluation of new treatments. Brown Cancer Center surgical oncologists have instituted and evaluated numerous new technologies for cancer treatment.
Brown Cancer Center surgical oncologists have conducted significant basic science and translational laboratory research programs funded by the National Institutes of Health and a variety of other funding agencies. Additionally, they have directed more than 75 clinical studies involving more than 14,000 patients.
Inpatient Services
Outpatient cancer clinics and treatments are provided at the Brown Cancer Center, with inpatient treatment services provided in University Hospital’s dedicated oncology units. University Hospital boasts a medical staff comprised of physician faculty from the University of Louisville Health Sciences Center – home to some of the finest minds in oncology care, research and education in the country.
