Breast Cancer
You have just been diagnosed with breast cancer or have learned
that your physician may suspect it and further testing is needed.
You are probably on an emotional roller coaster – scared,
mad, confused, overwhelmed.
First and foremost, there is hope. Many diagnosed with breast cancer
will live long, meaningful lives. However, the key to survival is
early, correct diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment from
the beginning.
What is Breast Cancer?
When you have breast cancer, cells in your breast divide more
rapidly than healthy cells and may spread through your breast or
into other parts of your body. Normally, cells grow and divide to
produce more cells only when the body needs them. However, sometimes
cells keep dividing when new cells are not needed. These extra cells
form a mass of tissue that is called a tumor. Tumors can be benign
(non-cancerous) or malignant, which means they are cancer.
