Head and Neck Cancers: Your Visit
General Information
Location
The clinic is located at the Brown Cancer Center, 529 S. Jackson
Street in Louisville. For directions to the Center, please refer
to the pocket of your patient information packet.
Appointments
To ensure you have an appointment that is most convenient for you,
please call as early as possible to schedule that appointment. If
you need to cancel or change your appointment, please notify our
office as soon as possible (at least 24 hours in advance), giving
your time and date of appointment.
Your Visit
Please arrive at least one half-hour before your scheduled appointment
for check-in. Your clinic visit may take 3-4 hours so that all of
our team members can have the opportunity to see you and discuss
your care together. Please remember to bring any medical records
and X-rays that your doctor suggests you bring. After arriving and
parking at the Brown Cancer Center, you will:
- Register on the first floor of the Center.
- Take the elevators down to the Radiation Oncology Clinic in
the basement level. This is where the Head and Neck Cancer Clinic
is located.
- Complete a brief patient data form and interview with our nursing
staff.
- Be evaluated by one of the physicians on our team. This will
involve a complete history and a thorough physical examination.
Your physician will then present your case to the rest of the
members of the team who will then evaluate you as a group. If
you need to see other health-care professionals we will try to
bring them to see you in clinic or help you arrange a visit with
them.
- Once your evaluation is complete our team will meet to discuss
all aspects of your case. A team recommendation will be made for
your diagnosis and treatment.
- The physician in charge of your care will give you the team’s
recommendations and will help answer any questions that you may
have at the time.
If another physician has referred you to the Head and Neck Clinic,
we will assume you want that physician to receive a report of our
findings and recommendations. Unless otherwise requested, we'll
forward such reports following your visit. Please be assured that
we keep your medical records strictly confidential and will not
disclose them without your permission.
What to Bring
Please bring any medical records and X-rays that your doctor suggests
you bring to your visit.
Fees for Services
You may incur charges from each clinical specialist involved in
your treatment and care. If you have questions about the purpose
or anticipated costs of a procedure, our staff will be more than
happy to fully discuss all aspects with you prior to treatment.
Insurance
As a professional medical care provider, the Multidisciplinary Head
and Neck Cancer Clinic does not accept the responsibility of negotiating
claims with insurance companies or other persons. The patient is
responsible to the Head and Neck Cancer Clinic for payment of accounts
within a reasonable time, regardless of the status of a claim. In
circumstances where a claim is pending or when treatment will be
