Second Opinions
Before starting treatment, you might want a second opinion about the diagnosis,
the stage of cancer and the treatment plan recommended. Some insurance companies
require a second opinion; others may cover a second opinion if you request
it. Gathering medical records and arranging to see another doctor may take
a little time. In most cases, a brief delay does not make treatment less
effective.
Patient Registration
When you arrive at the Brown Cancer Center, check in at the RegistrationDesk. Our friendly staff will give you directions to where you need
to go after you register.
If another physician has referred you to our office, we will assume
you want that physician to receive a report of our findings, treatments
and/or recommendations. Unless otherwise requested, we’ll
promptly forward such reports following your visits. Please be assured
that we keep your medical records strictly confidential and will
not disclose them without your permission.
What to bring
Please bring your insurance cards, co-payments (if applicable),
your newpatient sheet in this packet (filled out as best as possible),
and any other items you think may apply to your visit. In addition,
please contact your physician's office prior to your appointment
to determine what else you may need to bring.
Fees for Services
You may incur charges from each clinical specialist involved in
your treatment and care. If you have questions about the purpose
or anticipated costs of a procedure, our staff will be more than
happy to fully discuss all aspects with you prior to treatment.
Insurance
As a professional medical care provider, Brown Cancer Center
does not accept the responsibility of negotiating claims with insurance
companies or other persons. The patient is responsible to Brown Cancer Center
for payment of accounts within a reasonable
time, regardless of the status of a claim. In circumstances where
a claim is pending or when treatment will be for an extended period
of time, we recommend arranging a payment plan.
Resources
Cancer affects the individual and the whole family. There are several
community and national resources that offer support services designed
to address the emotional, physical and spiritual needs that gynecologic
cancer patients experience during and after treatment. These resources
include American Cancer Society, Kentucky
Cancer Program, the James
Graham Brown Cancer Center Mint Jubilee Resource Center, and many
more. For more information about these resources, ask our medical
staff.
There may be additional instructions specific to the following
treatment programs and specialties. Please review any that may apply
